Each year, Greater DC Cares honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by promoting volunteering as a critical tool for social justice and community change. We invite your business to get involved.
Wide range of projects. We hold an exciting range of projects throughout the week around the MLK Holiday. Events include:
- Community Days of Service at DC Public Schools to freshen up the play and learning areas and improve libraries;
- Book Drives for DC Public Schools to stock their libraries with new books and learning tools for students;
- Trainings for local nonprofit leaders on “How to Develop Mission-Driven Boards of Directors”; and
- Citizen Academy, which brings together community members and social activists. Topics include Dr. King’s Poor People’s Campaign, the state of poverty and economic justice in the Washington region today and what citizens can do to improve the existing situation.
How to participate. Your business can participate in two ways:
- Develop a volunteer employee team to provide service;
- Provide dollars to support our Holiday of Service.
A special thanks to our 2007 sponsors. We thank Target, which served as lead sponsor for the second year, and Marriott International, which provided additional sponsorship.
