Executive Service Corps is a community resource of volunteers –current or retired senior executives – with extensive business expertise. Our experienced executives serve the many different types of nonprofits, schools and government agencies that work to improve the health of our communities.

We invite senior-level business executive volunteers to share what they’ve learned through a lifetime of work! And we invite nonprofit organizations to request services from these talented individuals in areas such as technology, financial services and strategic planning. See below for a complete list of skills our volunteers offer.

When volunteers with business expertise sign up with Executive Service Corps, we work to match them with a nonprofit that can use their particular background.

Become an ESC volunteer. To volunteer as a consultant with Executive Service Corps, sign up NOW for Greater DC Cares’ one-hour orientation. Once you’ve completed orientation, we’ll work to match you with a nonprofit that can benefit from your particular skills. And we’ll forward opportunities to you on a regular basis. As you participate in this program, you’ll benefit by having the opportunity to network with other senior-level executives. For more information, email or call 202-777-4447.

Greater impact. Our corps of dedicated individuals is committed to making a meaningful contribution to our communities by assisting the Washington, DC region’s nonprofit organizations, schools and government agencies through high-quality consulting services.

Greater flexibility and ease. We make it easy! Executive Service Corps not only matches a volunteer’s skills with a nonprofit’s specific needs, we also help manage the projects to ensure the goals are met.

ESC is an advised program of Greater DC Cares.

What nonprofits receive. We help nonprofits by providing them with volunteer resources to help them do their work more efficiently and effectively. We also help build their capacity through trainings to help them manage volunteers more effectively and providing opportunities to learn best practices in working with volunteers from nonprofit colleagues.

Identifying projects. Greater DC Cares matches a volunteer’s skills and interests with a nonprofit’s needs. To be effective, both the nonprofit and the volunteer must invest their time, energy and expertise throughout the life of the project. Projects typically last three to six months.

How it works. In facilitating a match between a nonprofit and a skilled volunteer, Greater DC Cares:

  • Makes the initial connection.
  • Helps develop the scope of work and deliverables.
  • Provides support throughout the project to make the partnership successful.
  • Asks the nonprofit and the volunteer to fill out an evaluation so we can continually improve the program.
