Quick Q & A
Q. What happens at orientation?
A. You tell us about your interests and skills, so we can help identify opportunities that meet your needs. We tell you the various ways of working with Greater DC Cares, the many volunteer options and services we offer and how to sign up for projects.
Q. What happens next?
A. Once you complete an orientation, you can participate in any of our programs. Sign up for our one-time, high-impact Flexible Volunteer Program, offer your skills through our Pro-bono Consulting Program or sign up to respond to emergencies. Click here to see a list of all our programs and services.
Q. When and Where Do Orientations Take Place?
A. We offer several options:
- Every Week. We hold orientations every week at our headquarters at 1725 I Street, N.W., Washington, D.C., from 6:30–7:30 p.m. Once a month, you have the opportunity to come on your lunch hour, from 12:30–1:30 p.m.
- Periodically. We periodically offer “Express Orientations” that are combined with a volunteer project. For example, at Loaves and Fishes in the District, you can participate in an orientation and then help prepare and serve a meal for homeless individuals. These orientations are limited to 10 people.
- Whenever You Want. For 15 people or more, we’ll hold a special orientation at a location of your choice!
- All orientations are Metro accessible, for your convenience.
All Orientations above are held at the following location:
Greater DC Cares' Office- 1727 I Street, NW

** This is an Express Orientation. It will be an abbreviated orientation to be immediately followed by preparing and serving food at Loaves & Fishes. Limited to ten people. Located in DC. Metro accessible.
