Each year in May, businesses and volunteers participate in Servathon, Greater DC Cares’ marathon days of community service. In 2007, approximately 3,000 volunteers came out to help make a greater impact on positive social change — and help make the DC region a greater place to live.
Two days. 3,000 volunteers. 13,500 hours. $400,000 saved! Together, we made a huge impact.
Get your company involved. Your business can participate in two ways:
- Sponsor Servathon! AOL served as Servathon’s Presenting Sponsor for the third year in a row in 2007. AOL, Freddie Mac and Deloitte all value the visibility they receive in advertisements and collateral material. A wide range of sponsorship levels is available so any business can participate!
Other companies participating in Servathon 2007 included Fannie Mae Foundation, Congressional Quarterly, DMJM, Navigant Consulting, SAP, Social & Scientific Systems, UN Foundation, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, Verizon, Boston Beer Company, DS3 DataVaulting, Sport & Health Clubs, Rand Construction, Blattner Brunner, Bond Beebe, Raffa, MorganFranklin, McGraw-Hill, WMACCA, DLA Piper, America’s Promise, and Potomac Massage Training Institute.
- Form an employee team! For all sponsor teams, Greater DC Cares will develop a project that meets your community investing goals.
Great achievements — for the greater good. For two amazing days during Servathon 2007, we completed projects throughout the region:
- Landscaping the C&O Canal.
- Helping CentroNia, a bilingual multicultural center, prepare for its annual community festival.
- Beautifying the grounds between the World War II and Korean War Memorials on the National Mall.
- Painting schools around the region to give students a cheerful place to study.
- Cleaning and collecting debris along the Anacostia River.
In addition to these hands-on projects, Greater DC Cares also held several other events as part of Servathon 2007:
- Board Leadership Program – training for nonprofits throughout the region on “Developing a Mission-Driven Nonprofit Board”
- Marketing Training for nonprofit organizations
- “Citizen Academy” workshop on environmental issues facing the region and what we can all do to help
